Reflective Debrief Practice
Reflective debrief practice is a structured, non-judgmental group process that helps practitioners examine how internal responses—thoughts, emotions, and assumptions—shape their external work. Rooted in the RPII Reflective Debrief® model and Reflective Practice Groups, this approach supports deeper insight, resilience, and professional growth for mediators and conflict professionals.
Hansa Patel facilitates reflective practice groups for mediators, conflict resolution professionals, attorneys, and helping-field practitioners who want ongoing reflective supervision for mediators and strengthened reflective debrief habits.
What the Process Looks Like
-
Participants present a puzzling or surprising case from their practice.
-
The group explores what happened externally and what arose internally.
-
Members identify underlying patterns, biases, or assumptions using equity-centered inquiry.
-
The group considers new perspectives and choices for future practice, including trauma-informed mediation techniques and culturally responsive mediation approaches.
Reflective groups typically meet monthly over the course of a year to provide the continuity, community, and accountability that independent reflection often lacks. Sessions combine reflective inquiry, brief experiential practice, and peer feedback to translate insight into specialized mediation skills training.
