As an attorney, Hansa zealously advocated for abused, neglected and abandoned children and their parents in the child welfare system, through the the San Francisco Superior Court Juvenile Dependency Panel. She litigated complex matters such as physical, emotional and sexual abuse, placement, reunification, and termination of paternal rights, custody, restraining orders, substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental health, etc. Hansa also represents clients in multi-disciplinary meetings, appeals, juvenile delinquency hearings, criminal matters, and advocates for children’s educational rights by attending IEPs. She was invited to mentor new attorneys to join this panel.
Hansa has represented parents and children in court mediations involving an allegation of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Resolved issues involving adoption, termination of paternal rights, custody, visitation, residency, sibling rights, de facto parent's rights, relative placement, educational rights, mental health services, etc.
As a mediator for Conflict Intervention Services at the San Francisco Bar Association, she has mediated landlord and tenant conflicts to prevent homelessness. She has facilitated public board meetings between large housing organizations and tenants, including property managers, service providers, and local housing government agencies, to provide an opportunity for open and respectful communication. Hansa co-chairs a virtual reflective practice for landlord/tenant mediators to review cases. Mindfullness Teacher
Hansa is also a certified mindfulness lawyer teacher, certified by Warrior One, Judi Cohen. She teaches mindfulness to lawyers, conflict professionals, social justice communities, and law students. In addition, Hansa has been a lifelong meditator and yoga practitioner, practicing compassion and loving-kindness meditation and Surya Kriya Meditation. Some of her teachers include Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Jack Kornfield, and Sharon Salzberg, and many others. Hansa's practice has been transformed by retreats such as Vipassana nine-day silent retreats, Siddha Yoga Ashram retreats, and Shivanada Ashram Yoga Retreats.
Mindfulness has always supported Hansa’s personal life, and now it is integrated into her professional life.
Trainer
As a trainer, Hansa has provided mediation training to mediators, lawyers, and mental health professionals working in mediations in the USA, Canada and Africa. Hansa has trained mediators on how weave mindfulness skills into conflict intervention to develop mediator’s self-awareness, assumptions, judgments and bias and at the same time increase curiosity and develop mediator wellness.

Hansa R. Patel is a lawyer, mediator, mindfulness teacher, and trainer. As a trainer, she provides mediation training to mediators, lawyers, and mental health professionals in the USA, Canada, Nigeria, and Kenya. In addition, Hansa has trained mediators on integrating mindfulness skills when working with conflict, including the Family Court Mediators with the Judicial Council of California.

Hansa obtained her JD law degree in 2000 from John F. Kennedy University. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 2001. Hansa received her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English from the University of San Francisco in 1995.
